Spark Track - a revolution in EDM technology

Since wire-electro discharge machining (WEDM) involves a discharge on a wire, it is, in principle, possible to detect the location of the discharge in real time when measuring the machining current pulses from two sides of the workpiece (wire input, wire output).

The revolutionary Spark Track technology, a significant innovation in wire-electro discharge machining that marks the start of a new era for the technology.

The electrical discharge machining process is a stochastic process as discharges occur in the gap between the electrode points where there is the lowest electrical resistance. Numerous investigations have been carried out in the past, with a view to optimising this process.
Since wire-electro discharge machining (WEDM) involves a discharge on a wire, it is, in principle, possible to detect the location of the discharge in real time when measuring the machining current pulses from two sides of the workpiece (wire input, wire output). A number of authors have suggested this theory in the past but due to an absence of the necessary control systems until now, implementation has, thus far, proved impossible. Recent improvements in electronics have, however, allowed GF Machining Solutions AgieCharmilles to make this utopia a reality, with reliable detection of the discharge location.
