The UrbanAlps StealthKey is the mechanical answer to the unauthorized simple 3D scanning and 3D printing of mechanical keys. The high security keys are produced by laser melting.
UrbanAlps is a startup in the area of high-tech mechanical security keys and cylinder-locks. The advantage of this technology is that these mechanical keys can't be 3D scanned and therefore can't be copied easily with a 3D printer.
The StealthKeys are unscannable since the coding is hidden (various patents). This design is only achievable with additive manufacturing. The products of the 4th generation are currently being developped.
A special challenge is the surface quality, which has been improved tremendously together with ProtoShape.
Keys are ideal for additive manucturing since each key should be unique yet large lot sizes need to be produced.
